WMAY’s Last Night-in-Sports Report: 07/20/2023

The Chicago Cubs scored five runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to defeat the Washington Nationals at Wrigley last night 8-3 in the final. A Nico Hoerner grand slam was the big blow for the Cubs in that 8th inning. Michael Tauchman had a 3-hit night for the Cubs with two doubles, a homer, and three driven in. The Cubs host the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at Wrigley.

Speaking of the Cards, they picked up another victory last night as they defeated the Miami Marlins at Busch 6-4 in the final. Nolan Gorman was the offensive hero for the Cards, going 2 for 4 with a homer and four driven in. The Cards are now 5-1 since the All-Star break.

Another game, another loss for the Chicago White Sox as they fell to the Mets in New York yesterday 5-1 in the final. Luis Robert’s 28th homer of the season accounted for the Sox’s lone run in the contest. The Sox wrap up their series with the Mets this afternoon in New York.

Minor League Baseball, the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes fell to the Champion City Kings last night 7-4 in the final. The Shoes host the Danville Dans tonight at Robin Roberts Stadium.
