Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has declared a state of emergency in that city because of the ongoing flow of migrants being bussed and flown there from Texas.
Lightfoot says more than 8,000 migrants have been sent to Chicago since last August, and the city has exhausted its supply of places to put them; hundreds of the most recent arrivals are currently being housed in Chicago police stations.
The emergency order says Chicago will have to bring more locations “online” to shelter the migrants, but also calls on the state and federal governments to do more to address the crisis.
