A federal judge in Northern Illinois has refused to block enforcement of Illinois’s assault weapons ban.

The ruling comes in a case brought by a Chicago man who sued, alleging the ban on certain weapons and high-capacity magazines was an unconstitutional infringement on his Second Amendment rights.

The court found that the ban is consistent with the nation’s history and tradition of regulating what it calls “dangerous” weapons. The ruling denied the request for an injunction and temporary restraining order.

The lawsuit itself is still alive, but the judge’s ruling says the plaintiff in the case is unlikely to be victorious in the case.

There are a number of other challenges to the law still pending in state and federal courts.
