A major Illinois labor organization is criticizing Republican candidate for Congress Regan Deering for her comments in a Labor Day TV interview.

Deering is running against Democrat Nikki Budzinski for the open 13th Congressional District seat. Deering was asked by WCIA-TV if she supports the Workers’ Rights Amendment to the state constitution that will appear on the November ballot. Deering responded that she “doesn’t believe we need to enshrine union power.” She also said she felt the minimum wage should be set at 10 to 13 dollars an hour… even though state law calls for that rate to increase to $15 an hour by 2025.

The Illinois AFL-CIO calls Deering’s remarks “anti-labor and anti-worker.”
