The Springfield School Board has voted to include Southern View Elementary as part of a plan to consolidate several schools into one new, large building.

The board had initially proposed merging Laketown and Hazel Dell schools as part of its ongoing school construction program. But like the other two, Southern View is also seen as aging, small, suffering from declining enrollment, and in need of repairs.

All three schools could be combined at a new location off of South 11th Street, but the decision on a location is not final. Only board member Micah Miller voted against including Southern View in the plan, as he remains concerned about the potential loss of three neighborhood schools.
