A top Illinois medical group is asking the state to step in following reports that Blue Cross Blue Shield has constructed “ghost networks” of providers that leave clients unable to secure medical services.

WCIA Channel 3 reports that the insurance giant offered a list of doctors to patients who were cut off from Springfield Clinic services because of a dispute between the two companies. But many of the doctors on that list are not accepting new patients, and some are not even located in Illinois.

The Illinois State Medical Society is calling on the state Department of Insurance to intervene and enforce laws against such practices.
