One of the unions representing Springfield city employees is objecting to the city’s new policy for COVID time off, saying it should have been collectively bargained.

As WMAY News was the first to report, the city says it will reimburse city workers for up to five days sick time if they must isolate because of a positive COVID test or exposure to the virus… but only if the worker is fully vaccinated and has gotten a booster. AFSCME says any change like that must come about through bargaining with employee unions. But AFSCME also says the city should be crafting policies to keep all workers safe, and says this policy does not accomplish that.

The union has requested an immediate meeting with the city on the issue.
