Two local football powerhouses have advanced in the IHSA postseason… but only one will move on past the next round.
Sacred Heart-Griffin rolled over Breese Central 55-14 to move on to the Class 4A semifinal. There they will face the Rochester Rockets in a “Leonard Bowl” rematch. Rochester advanced with a 57-28 win over Freeburg. However, the football postseason has come to an end for several other area teams. In Class 1A, Athens was eliminated after being edged by Carrollton, 28-26.
In Class 3A, defending state champion Williamsville was knocked out of the postseason by Tolono Unity, 28-7.
