Republican Congresswoman Mary Miller is blasting the FBI search of former President Donald Trump’s estate in Florida, saying it has the “markings of a total abuse of power.”

Miller contends the search is an attempt to “smear” Trump and to impact both the 2022 midterm elections and the 2024 presidential race. She says if the FBI can search Trump’s home, it should also raid the homes of members of President Biden’s family, to investigate information she says was found on a laptop that purportedly belonged to Biden’s son Hunter. Another local Republican, Darin LaHood, says the search raises serious questions that demand answers from the FBI and Justice Department, and is calling on them to explain the factors that led to the search.

Meanwhile, Democratic U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says he’s sure the FBI wouldn’t have taken such a step against Trump without “checking all the boxes.”
