Illinois Department of Natural Resources officials are urging everyone to be alert when venturing into state parks to catch the eclipse next week.

The eclipse will take place on April 8 – the same day as the beginning of turkey hunting season across the
state.

Hunters are reminded to scout in designated areas of the park and eclipse watchers have been urged to remember that hunters may be present when they arrive at the park.

Officials also note that on sites open to turkey hunting,
mushroom hunting is also allowed – but only after 1 p.m.
