Feeling Lost When You Lose Power?

Last night – I’m not sure if you realized – but there was a pretty bad ice storm. The weather in general recently has felt all over the place, but when it comes to ice on the street and power lines, this can create some problems. Since my wife and I moved to Springfield, we have never lost power – in 2 and a half years – which is pretty impressive considering the “Derecho” we experienced last year.

Just to give you a little bit of back story on my wife and me – we moved to Springfield from The US Virgin Islands. It was amazing living in the islands for 5 years, but one thing that happened ALMOST daily, were power outages. It would be so maddening too, because these power outages would happen on beautiful days. The sky would be clear, and out of nowhere – out goes the power.

Needless to say, over those 5 years on the Island, we got very used to not having power – and even more frustrating – having power go out during times there should be no reason for it to go out. We all know, however, it doesn’t take long for we as humans to get used to something and INSTANTLY take it for granted. Like I mentioned, we hadn’t lost power in 2 and a half years here. I guess part of me thought we would never lose power again!

Alas, this last ice storm knocked us out. HUGE shout out to CWLP for getting it back up quickly, but you would’ve thought our house just burnt down. We kept walking around testing light switches, then re-testing them. After a time of bewilderment, we sat down and ate our dinner…. get this – without the TV on. It forced us to TALK. To actually convers with one another about our days and such. You know? It wasn’t that bad. So if you felt like we did when our power went out, remember, unless something REAL bad is happening, it will come back on. Talking isn’t so bad after all.
