Over half of Illinois counties currently at elevated risk for COVID-19 hospitalization with Sangamon and others making the list

COVID

Sixty-one counties in Illinois are now at an elevated risk for COVID-19 hospitalizations.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported Friday that only 24% of adults across the state are up to date on COVID-19 vaccines.

Eighteen counties are listed at high risk for hospitalization due to severe illness from COVID-19. Sangamon, Menard, Logan and Christian counties fall under that category with over 20 hospitalizations per 100,000 people.

The CDC suggests people living in these counties should get up to date on vaccines and avoid unnecessary indoor activities.
