The City of Chicago paid a settlement agreement of $100,000 to two whistleblowers who were improperly fired by Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin after they uncovered wrongdoing in the Treasurer’s office.
However, the public may never know the details of what they discovered because, in an unusual move, they are prohibited under the settlement agreement from giving any “false and disparaging” statements to the media.
The threat of legal action could convince them to say nothing at all.
