A Man Sold His Dead Mom’s Ashes on Facebook For $30

A pair of popular TikTok users noticed that someone was selling an urn of human ashes on Facebook Marketplace and bought the remains for $30. TikTokers Lauren Eliza and Mark first spotted the listing in September, which noted that the ashes were the seller’s mom’s, and they were selling 2 ounces of ash and bone per vial for $30 plus shipping.

The seller added that the purchase included a copy of the cremation certification, but that the backstory behind the ashes is sold separately for $5. This last part is so funny to me. Lauren added that she was “pretty sure” it’s legal to do — and she was right. There is no federal law in the US against selling human remains.

Mark posted an update that he bought ashes to send over to Lauren and interviewed the seller to “get the tea.” When the package arrived, Lauren posted a TikTok reveal of her opening the package. The vial was placed in a hollowed-out book with skulls and flowers on it, and there was also a card in the package.

When someone questioned if it was real in the comments, Lauren used her mortician expertise to confirm: “It’s real. You can see me in real time confirm… bc I see the (bone) fragments.”

People are wild….
