Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has sued electric supplier Residents Energy for deceptive tactics.

The complaint filed last week alleges that the company’s rates were nearly twice those of ComEd, costing customers up to $15 million.

The complaint alleges that the company lured customers with low introductory rates, then sharply increased rates illegally.

The company faces potential fines of $600,000 in addition to reimbursement and investigative costs.
