Reported dog theft leads to weapons related arrests in Springfield

This past weekend saw various arrests for weapons when the Springfield Police Department Street Crimes Unit and numerous other patrol officers executed a search warrant in the 1800 block of S. Wirt Ave in the capital city of Illinois.

Officers had reportedly been made aware of this residence after a dog was reportedly stolen by several people – one of whom was allegedly armed with a weapon.

Before the search warrant was served, one subject was apprehended outside on the front porch area; the rest of the house’s occupants were detained thereafter without incident.

Seven guns were recovered from the residence, including an AK-47 pistol with a drum magazine and a semi-automatic rifle with a drum magazine.

Breion M. Edwards of Springfield was arrested for possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm without a Foid card, theft, and cruel treatment of animals.

Dametris D. Nelson of Springfield was arrested for possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm without a Foid card.

Darryl A. Spratt of Springfield was arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon on a person or vehicle, mob action, theft, and possession of a firearm without a Foid card.

And Jaiylen J. Plato of Springfield was arrested for possession of a firearm without a FOID card, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon on a person or vehicle, and for a previous Saline County arrest warrant for aggravated assault of a police officer.
