U.S. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona visited Fairview Elementary School in Springfield on Wednesday.
He was accompanied by Gov. J.B. Pritzker and state school Superintendent Tony Sanders.
The group visited the school during its after-school SCOPE program, conducted in partnership with Springfield’s Boys and Girls Club.
Cardona is on a five-state bus tour to promote the federal government’s “Raise the Bar” initiative, which provides funding to accelerate learning, address a shortage of teachers, and improve mental health support for children.
