Springfield Police Chief Ken Scarlette honored Officer Jake Atwood with the Life Saving Award yesterday.
Officer Atwood witnessed an accident on July 24 where a bicyclist was injured after being struck by a truck at the intersection of Veterans and Lindbergh; the off-duty officer rendered first aid to a life-threatening head injury.
Chief Scarlette noted that Atwood’s quick actions played a major role in saving the life of the injured bicyclist and that Officer Atwood’s prompt response and dedication to his profession are a true testament of his character.
