With two strikes on him in the bottom of the 9th inning Christopher Morel turned what looked to be another disappointing Cubs loss into an exhilarating comeback win as Morel hit a three-run-walk-off homer to give the Cubs a 4-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

The Cubs had trailed 3-0 the majority of the game until former Sox Nic Madrigal hit just his 2nd homer of the season to make the game 3-1 in the 8th and set the stage for Morel’s heroics.

Drew Smyly picked up the win in relief for the Cubs, and Gregory Santos took the loss for the Sox. Gavin Sheets homered for the Sox in defeat. The Sox are off today and will be in Colorado tomorrow night to start a series with the Rockies. The Cubs also are off today and will host the Kansas City Royals tomorrow afternoon at Wrigley.

It wasn’t all excitement for the Cubs yesterday, however, as they did announce that starting pitcher Marcus Stroman will be out indefinitely with a rib cartilage fracture.

The St. Louis Cardinals got shutout at Busch last night 8-0 by the lowly Oakland A’s. Alec Burleson and Taylor Motter had 2 hits apiece for the Cards in the loss. The Cards host the New York Mets tonight at Busch.
