WMAY’s Last Night-in-Sports Report: 08/01/2023

It was a tough one for the Chicago Cubs last night at Wrigley as the fell to the visiting Cincinnati Reds 6-5 the final. Marcus Stroman took the loss for the Cubs. Dansby Swanson went deep for the Cubs in the contest. The Cubs and Reds battle again tonight at Wrigley.

Off the field yesterday, the Cubs made a couple of trades, acquiring 3b Jeimer Candelario from the Washington Nationals and relief pitcher Jose Cuas from the Kansas City Royals. The MLB trade deadline is 5p CT today.

After a day off yesterday, the St. Louis Cardinals are back in action tonight as they host the Minnesota Twins at Busch. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:45p CT.

The Chicago White Sox, after a day off yesterday, find themselves in Texas as they start a series with the Rangers. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05p CT

In minor league baseball news, the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes are in Danville tonight to take on the Dans.

Women’s World Cup, Team USA advanced to the knockout stage with a 0-0 tie with Portugal. Team USA’s Rose Lavelle will be unavailable for the knockout stage game as she picked up her 2nd yellow card of the tournament last night verse Portugal.
