Illinois residents will be required to make appointments to renew driver’s licenses at 44 of the busiest drivers’ services facilities in the state, including in Springfield.

The “skip-the-line” program begins Sept. 1 and is aimed at reducing wait times.

The requirement for an appointment does not apply to title and registration services like license plate sticker renewals. In central Illinois, appointments will be required at Bloomington, Champaign, Decatur, Pekin, Peoria, and Springfield.
