Lion Electric opened its newest electric vehicle manufacturing facility outside of Joliet yesterday.
The 900,000-square-foot facility is the largest all-electric U.S. plant dedicated to medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicle production. The company expects to create 1,400 jobs and produce up to 20,000 vehicles per year.
Lion Electric’s new plant is the first dedicated vehicle assembly plant in the Chicago metro area since 1965.
