Illinois residents may be entitled to cash payments as part of an upcoming settlement between the state and Instagram.

The state filed a class-action lawsuit alleging that Instagram and other platforms controlled by Meta violated the state’s Biometric Information Privacy Act.

Instagram allegedly collected and stored personal identifiers like fingerprints and facial recognition illegally, leading to a settlement worth $68.5 million.
