Allegations of abuse at Choate Mental Health and Developmental Center was a major motivating factor for a new law signed by Gov. JB Pritzker.
Some former employees of Choate abused patients, obstructed official probes, and lied to investigators about wrongdoing.
The new law requires that people who do not report cases of abuse or who actively obstruct investigative reports will be added to a Registry, letting future employers know their role in silencing survivors of abuse at their job.
