While last week’s torrential downpour and harsh windstorm lasted for only an hour or so, the consequences have stretched far beyond Thursday afternoon.

As of 9 am on Monday morning, City Water Light and Power had it noted that there were still over 10,000 customers affected by the power outage that first began on Thursday.

And with temperatures expected to climb toward 90 degrees over the next several days, that means that staying cool, hydrated, and lucid will remain key.

The City of Springfield has cooling centers around the city for just such purposes – including at the local YMCAs – while the American Red Cross has set up a shelter for anyone in need at the Springfield NAACP building.
