The new state budget includes a big funding boost for the network of agencies providing services to children who have been the victims of physical or sexual abuse.

The budget added an additional $3.7 million in funding for Children’s Advocacy Centers of Illinois, a 66% increase in its overall state funding.

The network of 41 centers, including one in Sangamon County, offers assistance in going through the court process in order to avoid further emotional trauma to the child, while also providing information on medical and mental health referrals.

It’s not immediately known how the money will be divided among the local organizations or how much additional funding Sangamon County will receive.
