WMAY’s Last Night-in-Sports Report: 06/12/2023

The Chicago Cubs got blown out in San Francisco yesterday 13-3 in the final. Hayden Wesneski took the loss for the Cubs, giving up 5 hits and 5 runs over just 3 innings of work. The Cubs are off today and will be in Pittsburgh tomorrow night to start a series with the Pirates.

A run in the top of the 8th inning was the undoing for the St. Louis Cardinals as they fell to the Cincinnati Reds at Busch yesterday 4-3 in the final. Jordan Hicks took the loss in relief for the Cards. The Cards host the San Francisco Giants tonight at Busch.

The Chicago White Sox had a 5-1 lead going into the top of the 8th inning yesterday at the Rate. The Sox then proceeded to give up 5 runs combined in the top of the 8th and 9th innings to the Miami Marlins, falling to the Marlins 6-5 in the final. Luis Robert homered and drove in 2 for the Sox in the loss. The Sox are off today and will be in LA tomorrow to start a series with the Dodgers.

In the NBA, it is game 5 of the NBA finals tonight in Denver as the Nuggets host the Miami Heat. The Nuggets lead the series 3-1 and have an opportunity to bring home their franchise’s first NBA title with a win tonight. Tip-off for game 5 is scheduled for 7:30p CT.
