Local law enforcement is once again putting out an early warning about holiday traffic enforcement.

The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department will launch its Fourth of July safety effort on June 16, with extra patrols focusing on impaired and unbuckled drivers.

The expanded enforcement – part of a statewide and national effort – will run through the early morning hours of July 5.

Sheriff Jack Campbell says the message is clear – if you are driving, don’t indulge in alcohol, cannabis, or other drugs.

The enforcement effort is funded by federal highway safety dollars, administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
