With hundreds of thousands of Illinois drivers hitting the road for Memorial Day, the Illinois Department of Transportation is working to clear a path for them.

IDOT crews will suspend work and reopen lanes where possible from Friday afternoon through midnight Monday night – but not every project can be halted.

Lane closures will remain in effect for some projects, including the work on Interstate 55 over the Sangamon River, where lane reductions will continue throughout the weekend.
