Illinois’s unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level since before the pandemic.
The statewide jobless rate dipped in April to 4.2%, down two-tenths of 1% from March, and three-tenths of a percent lower than in April of last year.
The last time the jobless rate was that low across the state was in February of 2020, when unemployment stood at 3.8%. Illinois added 8,500 jobs last month, with the biggest gain coming in manufacturing.
