Another big event in downtown Springfield Saturday – amongst the numerous – will be the commencement ceremonies for the University of Illinois Springfield.
More than 700 UIS students are expected to participate, out of nearly 1200 who are eligible to graduate.
The ceremony will be held at 2 pm at the BOS Center; LaNise Nicole Kirk, who is earning a master’s degree in human development counseling, has been chosen as the commencement speaker.
In addition, retired UIS Professor Ray Schroeder will receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters for his work in establish the school as a national leader in online learning.
