Staffers at Springfield’s public library have issued an open letter urging the new city administration to retain library director Summer Griffith.

The letter, signed by more than two dozen Lincoln Library employees, says the library has been making great strides since Griffith was named director in February of 2022 by former Mayor Jim Langfelder.

The staffers point to initiatives like a forthcoming bookmobile, greater community outreach, and new programs like the recently-launched text and textile lab. And they say those efforts could be interrupted or stopped altogether if Griffith is removed as director.

New Mayor Misty Buscher has not yet said whether she intends to keep Griffith on the job, but has expressed concern that Griffith does not have a library sciences degree.
