WMAY’s Last Night-in-Sports Report: 05/05/2023

The St. Louis Cardinals doubled up the Detroit Tigers yesterday at Busch to claim a 12-6 victory. Paul Goldschmidt led the way for the Cards offense going 4 for 4 with 3 homers and 4 driven in. Brendan Donovan also homered and drove in 3 for the Cards in the victory. The Cards are in Chicago tonight to start a series with the Cubs.

Speaking of the Cubs a balk by Adbert Azolay in the top of the 14th inning sent the Cubs to a 5-4 loss to the Miami Marlins at Wrigley yesterday. The Cubs look to rebound tonight at Wrigley against the Cardinals.

The Chicago White Sox scored 11 runs in the top of the 2nd inning in route to a 17-4 blow out of the Reds in Cincinnati. Hanser Alberto and Andrew Vaughn both drove in 4 to pace the Sox offense. Michael Kopech picked up the win on the mound. Sox are in KC tonight to start a series with the Royals.

NBA Playoffs yesterday, the Philadelphia 76ers edged out the Boston Celtics in OT 116-115 to tie the series up at 2 games apiece. Elsewhere the Denver Nuggets and Phoenix Suns are tied at 2 games apiece after the Suns 129-124 victory.

NHL playoffs the New Jersey Devils blew out the Carolina Hurricanes 8-4 while the Seattle Kraken poured in on the Dallas Stars 7-2
