Average gas prices across Illinois have fallen back below four dollars a gallon – and in Springfield, regular unleaded is down seven cents a gallon from a week ago. That’s almost 15 cents a gallon lower than it was a month ago.

Triple A says falling crude oil prices have helped to reverse recent increases at the pump – but warns that higher demand during the coming summer months could send prices climbing again.

Regular unleaded in Springfield averaged $3.65 a gallon on Sunday, 30 cents lower than the statewide average.

One year ago at this time, gas was nearly 80 cents a gallon more expensive locally, averaging just under $4.45 a gallon.
