One person injured, family pet dead in early Tuesday morning house fire in Springfield

One person has been injured, and a family pet has died in an early-morning house fire in Springfield.

Crews were called to the home in the 21-hundred block of Pickett Road around 2 am Tuesday and found heavy fire on the first floor, extending up to the attic.

The occupant of the home was found at a neighbor’s residence and was transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

A family dog was found dead inside the home. Firefighters quickly put out the flames. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
