WMAY’s Last Night-in-Sports Report: 05/01/2023

The Chicago White Sox snapped a 10-game win streak in the craziest way possible as they scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning to earn a 12-9 walk-off win over the Tampa Bay Rays. An Andrew Vaughn 3-run homer proved to be the game-winner. Yasmani Grandal also homered for the Sox in the contest. The Sox are off today and will host the Minnesota Twins tomorrow night at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Cody Bellinger homered and drove in 2, but it wasn’t enough as the Chicago Cubs fell to the Marlins in Miami 4-3 the final. Keegan Thompson took the loss in relief for the Cubs. The Cubs are in DC tonight to start a series with the Nationals.

The St. Louis Cardinals got doubled up by the Dodgers in LA yesterday, losing 6-3. Zack Thompson took the loss for the Cards in relief. The Cards are off today and will host the LA Angels tomorrow night at Busch.

In the NBA playoffs yesterday, Steph Curry scored 50 to give the Golden State Warriors a 120-100 game 7 win over the Sacramento Kings. The Warriors now advanced to take on the LA Lakers in the 2nd round.

NHL playoffs, after putting together the most successful regular season in the league history the Boston Bruins were unable to get out of the first round as they fell at home in a game 7 to the Florida Panthers in OT 4-3 the final.
