HSHS St. John’s Hospital has officially unveiled two newly-renovated intensive care units in Springfield; a priest provided a blessing of the new units as they were shown to the public Thursday.
The $17 million renovation project added beds to the intensive care unit and the cardiovascular ICU. Design work began in 2019, and construction started in 2021.
The 28,000-square-foot renovation created 28 new patient rooms, with a net increase of ten cardiovascular and six standard ICU beds – for a total of 64 intensive care beds.
The hospital says the new rooms and waiting area will create a more comfortable and functional space for patients, visitors, and health care providers.
