WMAY’s Last Night-in-Sports Report: 04/19/2023

The Chicago Cubs continued their winning ways out in Oakland last night as they shutout the A’s 4-0. Marcus Stroman threw 6 innings of shutout ball, but it was Mark Leiter Jr. who would pick up the win in relief for the Cubs. Seiya Suzuki had 2 hits to lead the Cubs offense. Cubs and A’s wrap up their series this afternoon in Oakland.

The Chicago White Sox split a double header with the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday as the Rate falling in game 1 7-4 but winning game 2 3-0. The White Sox pitching staff gave up just a single hit in game 2 and Jake Burger’s 3 run homer in the top of the first inning accounted for all the Sox runs in the contest. Sox and Phillies wrap up their series this afternoon at the Rate.

The St. Louis Cardinals gave up 6 runs in the top of 4th inning and fell to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Busch last night 8-7 the final. Jordan Montgomery took the loss on the mound for the Cards going just 4 innings giving up 10 hits and 7 runs. Paul Goldschmidt and Wilson Contreras homered for the Cards in the loss. Cards and Diamondbacks wrap up their series this afternoon at Busch.

NBA playoff scores from last night the Boston Celtics took a 2-0 series lead with a 119-106 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Elsewhere the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers are tied at a game apiece as Cleveland defeated New York last night 107-90. The Phoenix Suns and LA Clippers are also tied at a game apiece thanks to a 123-109 Suns win.
