Clock is running for Legacy Pointe sports complex developers

The clock is now running for the developers of a planned sports complex at the south end of Springfield.

The City Council approved a revised development agreement Tuesday night, increasing the potential amount of tax revenues the city could rebate to the developers over the next 23 years. Alderman Joe McMenamin voted against the proposal, saying the $45 million price tag was too steep.

But Ryan McCrady of the Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance says the developers will only get that money if they generate even more than that in tax revenue.

The developers will have 90 days after the ordinance is signed to secure bank financing and begin construction on the site at Legacy Pointe.
