Illinois is joining a lawsuit alleging that Google has engaged in practices to shut out competition for digital advertising, harming web content creators by limiting their ability to generate revenue.

Attorney General Kwame Raoul says Illinois will join the U.S. Department of Justice and 16 other states suing Google for what he calls monopolistic control of digital advertising markets.

The AG says Google has used its dominance in the digital arena to acquire or drive out competing companies, and to force online outlets to use Google products exclusively.

As a result, Raoul says Google now controls 90% of the digital advertising market and keeps 30% on the dollar for every ad on its platforms.
