Federal workplace safety officials are now looking into the death of an HVAC contractor this week at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport.

55-year-old Gregory Fields was working on the HVAC system at the airport terminal building Tuesday when he suffered blunt force injuries and burns.

Initially officials said the Office of the State Fire Marshal was investigating, but that office determined that the incident was outside the scope of its jurisdiction.

Now the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration – OSHA – has been brought in to determine what happened.
