Taxpayers who were affected by last month’s powerful tornadoes across Illinois will get some relief from Tuesday’s tax filing deadline.

Governor JB Pritzker says homeowners and businesses who sustained damage from the tornadoes will be given a six-month extension for filing or paying any taxes due between March 31 and May 31.

Sangamon is one of five Illinois counties declared a state disaster area following the tornadoes that caused extensive damage in Sherman and Riverton.

Anyone seeking the storm-related extension should contact the Illinois Department of Revenue and be prepared to provide documentation about your storm damage.
