Governor JB Pritzker is thanking the first responders who answered the call when violent tornadoes struck Sangamon County on Friday.

Pritzker visited Sherman Wednesday, which is still cleaning up after dozens of homes were damaged or destroyed by an EF-2 tornado with winds up to 130 miles an hour.

Meanwhile, union workers from around the area have also been assisting with cleanup and recovery efforts. The Laborers’ Disaster Response Team was established after the 2006 tornadoes that hit Springfield.

Friday’s storm marks the 13th time the volunteer group has been deployed to assist with removal of debris and fallen trees and taking on other tasks to help in the aftermath of the storm.
