The Sangamon Mass Transit District will alter several routes starting Monday, a move brought about in part by the upcoming closures of Jefferson and Madison Streets.

Those roads will close for 14 months, starting Wednesday, as part of the rail consolidation project.

As a result, SMTD will adjust six downtown routes on Monday to accommodate the closure. The affected routes are 1, 2, 7, 12, 901, and 903. At the same time, several other routes will be changed.

SMTD says Route 1 can no longer travel on the frontage road between Sand Hill and Peoria Road because the condition of that road has deteriorated.

And the poor condition of the Capital City Shopping Center parking lot is forcing changes to Route 10 and 902; you can find the full list of changes at smtd.org.
