United Airlines has decided to end its daily service between Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport and Chicago’s O’Hare, beginning in June.

But several members of Springfield’s congressional delegation are urging the airline to reconsider; United says its decision is based in part on an ongoing pilot shortage.

United’s decision comes just weeks after American Airlines decided to end its service between Springfield and Dallas – although American will be offering twice-daily flights between Springfield and O’Hare.

U.S. Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth, and Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski, say they’ve asked United to rethink the move, but did not offer any indication that the airline will do so.

All three say they will look for other ways to address the travel needs of Central Illinoisans.
