April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month – and if you’re not aware of it yet, the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office is gearing up to remind you.
Sheriff Jack Campbell says his deputies will be taking part in a statewide enforcement effort to crack down on drivers texting or otherwise using their phones behind the wheel. Campbell reminds motorists that it’s illegal to use a phone while driving unless it’s in hands-free mode.
The theme of the enforcement campaign throughout April is “Drop It and Drive,” and Campbell says if you’re driving with a phone in one hand, you can expect a ticket in the other.
