Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is warning of a new scam targeting service members.
Raoul says members of the military are getting calls from someone posing as a representative of the Defense Finance and Accounting Service.
The fraudulent caller claims the service member has been paid an inaccurate amount and must return the incorrect payment by wire, gift card, or cryptocurrency.
Raoul notes that the Defense Department does not handle such matters by phone call and will not seek repayment through an app or by gift card or crypto.
