A Springfield man has been sentenced to seven years in prison on federal drug and gun charges.

50-year-old Alonzo Hampton pleaded guilty last year to the charges, stemming from a joint investigation involving officers from Springfield, Sangamon County, and Illinois State Police, as well as the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Evidence showed that Hampton was found in possession of heroin and cocaine, with intent to distribute, and was also carrying a handgun.

He was on supervised release from other prior offenses at the time of his arrest.
