A Springfield alderman believes politics is at the heart of a physical altercation with a union member following Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
Ward 2 Alderman Shawn Gregory tells WMAY’s Frank McNeil that the union member put his hands around Gregory’s neck as the two had an exchange outside the Municipal Center.
Gregory believes it’s part of escalating tensions surrounding Gregory’s support of Mayor Jim Langfelder, while many local trade unions are backing Langfelder’s opponent, Misty Buscher.
Springfield police are investigating the incident but have made no arrests.
Gregory says he does not intend to press charges in the incident, but is considering other steps, such as an order of protection.
