The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) John J. Kim announced on Friday a second funding opportunity to assist businesses and communities in replacing old lead service water lines.

This is in line with the requirements of the Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act (LSLRN Act). The grant program associated with the act – The Lead Service Line Inventory Grant Program – offers local government units between $20,000 and $50,000 to fund a complete line service inventory and comprehensive, progressive strategy going forward.

Director Kim noted that the “Illinois EPA is well aware of the need for funding assistance for communities to meet the requirements of the Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act. With the first LSLI funding opportunity, we received applications far exceeding the funds available, and it is our hope that this new funding cycle will provide funding to many more communities working to meet the inventory requirements of the LSLRN Act.”
